Crucial nutrient for a healthy life-Vitamin D

This is one of the single most important supplements  to be taking, if you cannot get the amount you need naturally. Vitamin D is the powerful “sunshine vitamin” and is becoming well known for its amazing benefits. Not only does it play a major role in bone health, but it is critical in regulating the immune system, neuromuscular system and cardiovascular system. The majority of vitamin D found and used in the body is actually manufactured by the body when skin is exposed to sun. Adequate amounts of D3 can be made in the sun after only 20 minutes of exposure to the face, hands, arms and legs or the torso.  This exposure must be without clothing cover or sunscreen. 20-30 minutes of this type of sun exposure 2-3 times weekly is ideal.Do NOT do this between the hours of 10:00am and 3:00pm, as the sun is too strong and could be damaging to the skin.  Since this is not always feasible to do, oral supplementation is necessary. Below are the guidelines for age and daily dosage of vitamin D.
AGE                               DOSAGE

Below 5yrs                 35 units per pound daily

5-10yrs                         2500 units daily

Adults                           5000 units daily
